Serving Ministry

So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
— John 13:14

The Serving Ministry offers several opportunities to serve through donations of time and talents, purchased items or monetary gifts. Regardless of the amount of time or skill set a person can offer, there is an opportunity available for anyone with a heart to serve.

Our varied projects impact many different populations in our community and beyond:

  • Outreach: Coordinates various collections of items for people in need, including food, school supplies, Christmas gifts, items for military personnel and more.

  • Servant Shepherds: Provides hands-on service throughout our community, 8-9 times per year. We usually serve in partnership with agencies such as Common Ground, Habitat for Humanity and others.

  • Hunger: We respond to the needs of the hungry locally, nationally and internationally. We coordinate an ongoing People In Need (PIN) food collection and support hunger initiatives through ELCA World Hunger.

  • Disaster and Medical Response: A new ministry we have started by improving our congregation’s ability to respond to medical emergencies. We want to expand into helping our community become resilient in the event of unexpected disasters. We have also been involved in rebuilding and rehab after natural disasters, such as in West Virginia post-flooding.

  • Kairos: This prison ministry currently includes one weekend event per year. In addition to having volunteers attend the event, we support the volunteers with donations of cookies for the inmates and money to cover the costs of the weekend.

  • Willow Brook: We offer worship and music once per month at this nearby senior living facility.

Current Needs:

The Serving Team is currently looking for people who are willing to cook a main dish to serve 15 (or more) people and to serve meals or otherwise assist at Common Ground as part of an All Shepherds team.
